I went to Martin's Auto because my Saab had some rust build up that was making an annoying noise and I needed new brake pads. They did a great job and were very accommodating to my schedule, getting the parts I needed by the next business day. Martin even made me tea while I waited! Great service, and great work done.

When I returned for a test drive the car was 90% better. Everything else on the car was in good shape and Martin offered a 1 month 1000 mile warrantee. This was not required for high mileage cars in Massachusetts. I bought the car believing that I could work out any other minor issues over the next month. Working out any issues would be the real test for the integrity of Martin’s auto.

I had been looking to buy a convertible for a year. I passed by Martin’s auto a few months ago and noticed a Saab convertible. I came back a few days later and took the car for a test drive.

The rattle took a few days longer to resolve. Martin replaced several parts and in the end fixed everything to my satisfaction. It was clear that Martin had spent a lot of time and money to make the car right since the first test-drive. His only goal was making me a satisfied customer. He never made excuses or complained about his bottom line. He simply worked to make everything right.

This was the first time I had ever met Martin. He was very friendly and willing to answer all of my questions. There were many, having never owned a Saab, especially one with high mileage. It was clear Martin knew his cars well and was very honest about the overall cost of ownership of this car. The car was in very good condition for being a 2000 with high mileage. The body was free of rust, the engine compartment was pretty clean, the exhaust had only minor surface rust, and the tires had even wear. During the test drive the car was a bit shaky. I told Marin I was interested but the shaking needed to be resolved. Martin worked on the car for a few days and gave me a call when it was ready.

Martin’s Auto is everything a garage should be. The owner and chief mechanic is honest and fair and friendly. It has been years since I have set foot at Martin’s. I found myself bored and googling places from my old college life. To my surprise, there was only one google review for Martin’s Auto Repair and it described the worst kind of business: A place that you would not return to and one that you would warn others against. The problem here is that Martian’s garage is no such place. Personally, I first dealt with Martin close to ten years ago, while attending school at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. I had purchased a Saab 9000 and was in over my head. The car left me stranded and I towed it to Martin’s Auto because the shop was listed as a Saab Specialist. I went in for repair and left with a part time job that helped me through school. He hired me as a young man with no formal training and educated me in the dying trade of the master mechanic. I watched from inside his business as he interacted with students, teachers, and all the other people that make the valley what it is. He moved more slowly, he looked at the issues from the perspective of the customer. He looked as his business as having roots in the community. He always spoke his mind. He was honest and fair. He felt that a handshake and one’s word had meaning. His shop was an extension of his person. It was always clean and well tended. You would often come in to find fresh paint on one piece of equipment or another. Tools were always put back in their homes. There was stained glass at the windows and automotive art on the walls. He lost his first shop to a house fire some time after I left his employment. From pictures, I can see his new shop carries the feeling of his original artisan business. It would be my recommendation to anyone in the area to give this repair facility a chance and to meet one of the best and most honest independent mechanics that I have ever met. Thank you Martin. If you have delt with this business please post. Martin no doubt has earned your support as he did mine all those years ago.

Bottom line for me is that I don’t trust mechanics easily, preferring to do what work I can myself. As I have less time these days I am always on the look out for a good mechanic. Martins auto is a place I would go back to and already have for my other cars. Martin takes the time to explain anything you want to know, anything. For Martin his shop is not just a business but a passion and it shows. I am glad I noticed the car in the lot and took the time to stop in a meet Martin. I not only have a fun and inexpensive good running convertible to drive this summer. I have two new mechanics I can trust, Martin and Mark.

A bought a SAAB and was assured several times over that it was a good car. I put about 1000 miles on it and it is practically useless, slipping transmission, oil leak, bad turbo, broken wipers, a total mess despite being told it was in great shape. An unpleasant experience and I don not recommend this business.

After driving the car for about 250 miles I found several minor issues and one bad rattle in the car. I brought the car back to Martin to get them checked out. Martin resolved the minor issues very quickly with the replacement of some sensors and brake pads, which were new but squeaking horribly.
